The Georgia Preschool Association (GPA) is thrilled to announce a new multi-year partnership with The Junior League of Atlanta (JLA).

"We are immensely grateful to the Junior League of Atlanta for their generous support of our Annual Conference and other training initiatives,” said Donna Moyer, President of the Georgia Preschool Association. “This partnership, born from a shared commitment to early childhood education and improving literacy outcomes for Georgia’s children, will provide significant opportunities for collaboration and create a lasting positive impact on the lives of young children in Georgia."

“As an organization, we continually align our volunteer and advocacy efforts where they are most needed. At this critical moment, we have chosen to focus our efforts on literacy in an effort to ensure that every child, in every family, from every neighborhood of Atlanta, has access to the language and literacy skills they need to learn to read, in order to empower their self determination,” said JLA President Chelsea Ulrich Tarnoff. “As we look to a brighter future for all Atlanta children and their access to quality reading resources, we are looking to work alongside partners, businesses, and organizations like the Georgia Preschool Association that are providing access to those resources so that we can continue to redefine the literacy landscape for all children.”

Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

About The Georgia Preschool Association:

Georgia Preschool Association is a non-profit organization founded in 1958, actively committed to promoting quality care and education for children eight years and under. The first annual meeting was attended by 111 preschool teachers. Presently we serve over 1400 members throughout the state of Georgia. In order to help provide a vital early literacy resource to educators and families alike, the Georgia Preschool Association sponsored the development of a free “pre-phonics” curriculum, Developing Sound Sense. The program consists of 12 online modules with a total of 110 sequenced games and activities to develop all aspects of phonological awareness from listening to beginning reading.

Get Georgia Reading

Two-thirds of Georgia’s third-graders are not reading on grade level, bringing long-term negative consequences to these children, their families, their communities, and our state. Unwilling to yield any longer to the unspeakable rate of illiteracy in Georgia, hundreds of public and private leaders from across the state and across sectors have come together to take on third-grade reading as an urgent priority for all who care about children’s health and well-being. Together, they developed a four-pillar framework outlining the conditions necessary for every child in Georgia to become a proficient reader by the end of third grade, paving the way to improved outcomes throughout school and life.
